Getting Your Oregon Drivers License

If you are over 18 and have a valid driver’s license or permit you can apply for an unrestricted operators license. It is important to note that even if you have a license from another state you still need to take your written test. While this is slightly annoying, you can use the $CSLINK to help you study and pass easily.

Requirements

The following is a list of requirements from the Oregon.gov DMV website for your license:

  • Be a resident of Oregon;
  • Be at least 18 years of age (click here for instructions for those under 18);
  • Have no medical condition that makes you unable to drive safely as defined in OAR 735-062-0000 (2)(a)(b)©;
  • Have no suspended, cancelled, revoked, or otherwise withdrawn driving privileges in Oregon or any other state.
  • Complete a Driver License/Identification Card Application, if you answer “yes” to any of the medical questions you are not eligible for a license. DMV will not be able to issue you a license until you have established that your medical condition does not affect your ability to drive safely. To do so, DMV may ask you to provide additional medical information and/or to pass additional DMV tests;
  • Provide proof of your full legal name, each time you apply;
  • Provide proof of your legal presence in the U.S., identity and date of birth, each time you apply;
  • Provide proof of your Social Security Number (SSN);
  • Provide proof of your Oregon residence address;
  • Pass the driver license (Class C) knowledge test;
    • Once you pass the knowledge test, make an appointment for a DMV behind-the-wheel drive test (NOTE: If you have a valid driver license issued by a U.S. State, you may not be required to take the drive test);
  • Complete and pass the drive test in a fully functional, street legal, Class C vehicle (see Driving Privilege section below) for which you can provide proof of insurance;
  • Pass a vision screening as defined in OAR 735-062-0050;
  • Surrender any valid driver license or permit issued by another jurisdiction; and
  • Pay the applicable testing and issuance fees.
