Obtaining Your Georgia Learner’s Permit

You must be 15 years old to get a learner’s permit in GA.

Proof of Indentity

An original birth certificate, certified copy of the birth certificate (with embossed state seal), certificate of birth registration, certified copy of court records (adoption, name changes), certified naturalization records, immigration card or a Valid Passport needs to be presented.

Social Security Number

You must know and present your social security number to apply for your learner’s permit.

Parent Or Guardian Requirements

A parent or guardian must sign your application for your driver’s license. If signed by a guardian, they must bring a certified copy of the order granting them guardianship.

Georgia DDS Certificate of Attendance

A Georgia DDS Certificate of Attendance must be signed and notarized by your school and is only valid for 30 days.

Tests

Driver’s Education

If you are 16 years old, you are required to take a state approved driver’s education course to obtain your Class D license. You must also complete 40 hours of driving, 6 of which occurs at light. 17 year olds and older are NOT required to take the course but must complete 40 hours of supervised driving with 6 hours at night.
