Getting Your Learner’s Permit in Georgia

Requirements to Get a Learner’s Permit

The teen applicant must stay in school until they have graduated or are at least 18 years old. The applicant must be at least 15 years of age, have parental consent, and provide appropriate documents such as:

  • Social security card
  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of Georgia residency
  • Filled out parental consent form

The applicant must then pass a written knowledge test as well as a vision test. A road test will come later after holding the learners permit for an allotted time frame. After successfully completing the road test, an applicant will be eligible to receive a full privilege, non-restricted Georgia driver’s license.

Driving with a Georgia Learner’s Permit

The newly licensed driver must always be accompanied by another driver 21+ years of age. If at any time a teen driver drops out of or gets expelled from school their driver’s may be suspended. The new driver’s license can also be suspended for sever misbehavior in school such as fighting, drugs, or weapons. With an intermediate license, the driver may only drive between the hours of 6:00am and midnight.
