Obtaining Your Connecticut Driver’s Learner’s Permit

You must be 16 or 17 years old to obtain a CT learner’s permit to drive. If you moved here from another state you must attend a driver education class and pass the road test. If it highly recommended you study the CT driver’s manual as well as the $CSLINK to pass your test.

Study the Manual and Cheat Sheet

According to the Connecticut DMV, the first thing you should do when preparing for your learner’s permit is study the manual. In addition, we recommend you review what you have learned quickly before the test with the manual and the $CSLINK.

When you are ready, you need to visit the DMV near you with your parent or legal guardian. Be prepared to bring:

  • ID documentation
  • proof of residency in Connecticut
  • a recent photograph
  • testing and permit fees

Your guardian/parent will be required to sign a content form for you to obtain your permit. You will then need to take the 25 question knowledge test.
